Talking It Over - possibly the worst book that I have ever read

For my 20th Century Fiction II class, I had to read a book called Talking It Over. I hated everything about this book! The story follows three friends, Gillian, Stewart, and Oliver, who are in a love triangle with one another. And these characters are the most neurotic and pretentious characters I have ever read. They do not account for their actions at all, and believe that they are the victims when they are the ones causing all the problems. Oliver and Stewart are supposedly best friends, but their whole friendship seems like a sham. Oliver treats Stewart with no respect and Stewart just takes it. And the one time Stewart has something (a relationship with Gillian), Oliver wants to take it from him. I don't understand Oliver at all, and it is annoying that in class people sympathize with him. But, he is just a spoiled brat that doesn't care about other people.

I guess, I'm just sick of reading stories about love triangles and problems that people cause for themselves. I just think that there are more important books to read (I'm probably just jaded.)

The writing style of the novel didn't agree with me either. I tend to go for the more conventional omniscient or first person points of view. But in this novel, all three characters are talking directly to the reader. I didn't care to hear their points of view, but that's probably because the whole story seemed frivolous to me from the beginning.

However, it feels good to get out my frustrations about this book.

Ciao.
